Anbu Illam
Background
Anbu Illam is home for children established by Persatuan Saiva Siddhanta (SSM Reg. No 3206/82 Selangor), a Hindu outreach missionary movement. Children of all ages are taken in and the homes are run according to the Hindu way of life.
The home is not encouraged to take in children who are not studying. Most come from broken homes.
The criteria for selecting children for both the homes are:
- children who are referred by the Social and Welfare Department
- children who are orphaned or who come from single parent families
- children whose parents are in prison
- abused children
- children from poor families who cannot afford schooling
- children referred by other organisations, based on individual merit
Anbu Illam was first set up in 1987 and caters for boys (25 presently). It is located in a 3-storey corner terrace house in Taman Permata in Ulu Klang, which is fully paid for.
All homes have a full-time warden each and are managed by a management committee comprising volunteers from the society.

Directions - From Ampang go along Jalan Ulu Kelang till you reach a flyover in front of Giant Supermaket. Do no take the flyover! Instead take the left turning at the traffic lights under the flyover which will lead you to Taman Permata. Go down the road for about 200 meters and take the second turning on your left into a housing estate. Anbu Illam is about 100 meters on your right after that turn. Piece of cake.
